Prior to the formation of JOSL, Newark’s Youth Soccer Leagues were all based in the East Ward’s Ironbound section. This is several miles away from the North Ward and inaccessible to many residents, outside the Ironbound section, who rely on public transportation.  JOSL provides an opportunity for youth in this area of Newark to play in an organized soccer league. There aren't other recreational soccer programs like JOSL in the North Ward.
