Many Newark families are faced with economic hardships and find they must leave their children unsupervised during the “after school hours” or on weekends.  Left without structured, supervised programs, young people often find themselves introduced to negative influences such as drugs, violence and other deviant activities around their home and school environments.  JOSL offers Newark’s youth the opportunity to be a part of an organized sports league affording them access to the valuable lessons that organized team sports provide (teamwork, motivation, respect, and other essential leadership skills).
